It’s not only about the holiday

As we approach Thanksgiving in the U.S. this week, I'm sitting with some complex thoughts. While many of us will gather with loved ones to share gratitude and turkey, this isn't everyone's reality.

Some of us are navigating challenging conversations with family members whose values deeply differ from our own. Others may have made the difficult choice to protect their peace by not attending. And for those carrying grief or processing trauma, this season can amplify those feelings.

Before we casually wish "Happy Thanksgiving" or sign off for the start of the holiday season, let's pause. This time of year often marks the beginning of a challenging period for many – perhaps for you, or for colleagues you work with daily.

Wherever this holiday finds you, please prioritize your wellbeing. Set boundaries without guilt. Step outside for moments of quiet when needed. And remember – it's okay to create new traditions that honor your authentic self.

If you're in a position to support others, a simple "I see you" can mean everything. Your empathy and openness might be exactly what someone needs during this time.

I hope this holiday brings you what serves you best – whether that's joyful gatherings, quiet solitude, or the strength to simply get through it.
